Our people
Altoona Regional is a private, charitable, not-for-profit 509-bed health care system governed by a volunteer community
board of directors. Two hospitals anchor a system that also offers a new state-of-the-art
outpatient surgery center, a multicounty
home nursing care organization,
home medical equipment and infusion therapy company, numerous primary care and specialty physicians, and much, much more. Our
Trauma Program extends our service area to more than 20 counties in Central Pennsylvania.
Altoona Regional is the largest employer in our county (Blair), as well as an economic catalyst, providing a consistent source of stable, well-paying jobs, serving as a purchaser of local goods and services, with an annual operational budget of approximately $350 million.
Our hospitals represent more than 200 years of combined health care experience, with a
medical staff of more than 300 physician specialists, a workforce of nearly 4,000 caring employees, and the support of nearly 600 dedicated
volunteers.
We are proud to be the referral center for cardiac surgery, oncology, neurosurgery, joint replacement, sleep medicine, wound care, mental health and many others.
In addition, we are committed to training the health professionals of the future. We offer a
family practice physician residency program,
clinical laboratory science program and in-service education for all levels of health care professionals. Seminars have included everything from genetic screening to esophageal cancer, for professionals from neurologists to anesthesiologists. Tuition reimbursement is available to support continuing education.
