Medical staff development plan
Everyone knows that the medical staff of our health care system is one of our most important and cherished assets. For that reason, the board of directors for Altoona Regional Health System engaged a nationally renowned consulting firm to update the medical staff development plan for the new health care system.

Medical staff development plans are objective, comprehensive documents that provide the board of directors with a road map to ensure that critical medical care is available, and remains available within our region.

On June 16, 2005, the board of directors approved a new medical staff development plan for Altoona Regional. The new plan allows the health care system to strategically prepare through 2010 for physician recruitment, physician retirements and any new specialty areas of medicine needed in our region.

The plan used key regional variables such as demographic trending data, patient trending data, national and local health care demand trends, and physician demand data by medical specialty. All Altoona Regional medical staff were asked to participate in the important planning process.
