Altoona Regional's Department of Emergency Medicine and Trauma Service provides patients with the best possible quality of care when seconds and minutes matter the most.
Our physicians are board certified in Emergency Medicine and share their expertise with local Emergency Medical Service providers through various training classes and emergency preparedness exercises. Altoona Regional's goal is to provide lifesaving care from the scene of an accident through the hospital setting. Medics, paramedics, critical care nurses, radiology and laboratory technicians, emergency medicine physicians, and trauma surgeons and other specialty surgeons create a multidisciplinary care team created to handle the most complex and life-threatening of injuries and illnesses. Regional Trauma Center Altoona Regional Health System Trauma Center is one of 27 fully accredited trauma centers in Pennsylvania. It has the largest service area in the state, serving 20 counties in West Central Pennsylvania. The trauma center is an integral component of the emergency medical services (EMS) system that manages patient care from the time of injury to treatment at a local hospital and/or trauma center and through the rehabilitative phase.
