Prevention of Falls

Help us help you stay safe

Our staff wants you to be safe while you are in the hospital. Preventing a fall is key to a safe hospital visit:

• Please slow down.
• Tell your nurse if you have fallen before. Some people fall more often and we need to know how to keep you safe.
• Ring your call bell to call the nurse before getting out of bed.
• Your family and visitors should talk to the nurse before helping you out of bed.
• Wear non-skid footwear.
• Change your position slowly and move slowly.

A fall prevention sign, represented by the symbol of a leaf, may be outside your room to notify staff members you may need help to get out of bed and to move safely. This helps us help you stay safe.

Condition H (Help)
Altoona Regional is dedicated to making the hospital a safe place for patients. We are leading the national focus on eliminating problems that adversely affect care. To help ensure that we provide the best care to our patients, we have Condition H.

Use Condition H if a noticeable medical change occurs and you feel the health care team is not recognizing the concern.

Call 4000 from any hospital telephone and put on the patient’s call light.

The operator will ask for caller identification, room number, patient name and patient concern. A team of medical professionals will arrive at the room to assess the situation.
