Center for Cancer Care: Medical Oncology
Chemotherapy services are provided by Blair Medical Associates, located on the 4th Floor of the Outpatient Center at Altoona Hospital Campus.
When you receive an IV treatment at our center, you receive more than medication. Our patients are able to interact among others and share emotions, common interests and life experiences. Patients encourage, support and applaud one another. At Altoona Regional's Center for Cancer Care, patients acquire a "second family."
Depending upon the recommended treatment, chemotherapy may take from 20 minutes to eight hours. Treatment may be needed daily, weekly or monthly. Treatment occurs on an outpatient basis meaning that chemotherapy is as easy as lying on a soft, comfortable recliner, and then getting up and going home.
On a daily basis, the medical oncology department sees close to 100 patients, including those here for office visits, injections, treatments and venipunctures. On average, we perform 35 chemotherapy treatments per day.
Our medical oncology team includes board-certified physicians, nurses certified in oncology, medical assistants, receptionists and lab technicians.
