Medical Services: Center for Cancer Care
We're taking cancer treatment to the next level
When it comes to fighting cancer, you want the best people and technology fighting for you. Fortunately, both are available close to home.
UPMC Altoona's Center for Cancer Care is the first in Pennsylvania to offer the new Elekta Synergy® S linear accelerator with VMAT (volumetric modulated arc therapy) — a revolutionary radiation treatment technology that is unique in its ability to target and kill tumors.
A state-of-the-art facility, the Center for Cancer Care provides approximately 730 cancer patients with over 13,500 comprehensive cancer treatments each year. Patients receive quality care that is designed specifically for them and their type of cancer, whether treatment involves radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery or any combination of the three.
The center treats more cancer patients than all other central Pennsylvania cancer centers. We offer a network of related educational services, support groups and resources. Our physicians and staff treat all types of cancers, most commonly prostate, breast and lung cancer, with the latest state-of-the-art equipment.
The center is a participant in the National Tumor Registry and has the approval of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons — a designation received by only one in four hospitals nationwide.
Cancer treatments can occur on a regular basis. Our staff arranges treatment times that work best for our patients and help them continue their daily activities. Free transportation is provided to patients in the Clearfield and Bedford areas. Patients use an adjacent parking lot reserved for them when visiting our center. UPMC Altoona makes every effort to ensure satisfaction with our patients' care and treatment.
