The lactation services staff of Altoona Regional provides several different services:

• We have board certified lactation consultants, who will provide prenatal information on breastfeeding at a monthly breastfeeding class.
• The lactation consultants see you and your baby in the hospital.
• A support system has been set up to help mothers and babies after they go home from the hospital, including a 24-hour telephone help line and outpatient visits for breastfeeding problems as needed and by appointment, as well as a Breastfeeding Support Group.

Breastfeeding Classes (two nights)
All expectant moms and dads
Place: Altoona Regional Health System
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Date: First and second Wednesday of each month
Room: Altoona Hospital Campus, Rotunda, 6th floor, Outpatient Center

Breastfeeding Support Group
Who: All nursing mothers and babies
Place: Altoona Regional Health System
Time: 10 a.m. or 5:30 p.m.
Date: Fourth Wednesday of each month
Room: Altoona Hospital Campus, Allegheny Room, 6th floor, Outpatient Center
Relaxed atmosphere where new moms can meet and learn about breastfeeding and parenting. Information and professional guidance provided by board certified lactation consultants

Breastfeeding Outpatient Visits
Breastfeeding outpatient visits are available for breastfeeding difficulties upon request from the mother, pediatrician and/or obstetrician. Appointments are needed. Please call for more information.
